The United States has issued important travel advisories for its citizens in India, urging them to avoid travel to specific regions due to safety concerns. The advisory specifically mentions Manipur, Jammu and Kashmir, the Indo-Pak border, and Maoist-affected central and eastern parts of the country. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has also released a revised travel advisory for the northeastern states, asking citizens to reconsider travel to these areas.

“Our citizens should remain vigilant against increasing crimes and terrorist activities in the country,” the advisory stated. It also advised against traveling within a 10-kilometer radius of the Indo-Pak border due to the possibility of cross-border firing. Travel to the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir, excluding eastern Ladakh and Leh, is also discouraged.

The advisory emphasized reconsidering travel to northeastern states due to incidents of terrorism and violence. According to Indian officials, violent crimes, including rapes and sexual harassment, have occurred in several tourist spots. The US advisory highlighted that terrorists often target tourist locations, transport hubs, markets, shopping malls, and government facilities.
