Tensions between Russia and Ukraine have escalated again following a fresh wave of drone attacks. Ukraine reportedly launched a major drone strike on Russian territory, killing at least 24 people. The attack targeted a café and a hotel in the Kherson region during New Year celebrations, according to local officials. The incident has triggered fresh concern over the worsening security situation between the two countries.

Meanwhile, Russia has accused Ukraine of carrying out drone attacks on President Vladimir Putin’s residence between December 28 and 29. Ukraine has strongly denied these allegations. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov claimed that 91 long-range drones were used in the alleged attack, but said Moscow would not withdraw from peace agreements. He accused Ukraine of attempting to derail peace efforts and warned that Russia would identify targets for retaliatory action.

Amid the rising tensions, former US President Donald Trump is reportedly trying to mediate an end to the conflict. However, recent developments appear to be fuelling further escalation. Following the alleged attacks on his residence, President Putin reportedly held a phone conversation with Trump. Putin’s aide Yuri Ushakov said Trump was angered by the incident and clarified that the United States had not supplied missiles to Ukraine.
