Hyderabad: The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) has announced special transport arrangements to meet the anticipated surge in passenger traffic during the Rakhi festival. Special buses will be operated across the state until August 11, with fares on these services increased by 50 percent for a limited period.
TGSRTC officials explained that the hike applies only to special services and is necessary to offset higher operational costs. Many regions currently face a shortage of buses, and additional vehicles are being mobilised to handle the festive rush. The revised fares will be in effect for just three days, after which regular ticket prices will resume.
On Friday, bus stations across Telangana reported heavy crowds, particularly at Secunderabad’s Jubilee Bus Station (JBS) and Hyderabad’s Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station (MGBS), as passengers prepared to travel to their hometowns. The rush was further intensified by the weekend, with high demand for buses to destinations both within Telangana and to neighbouring Andhra Pradesh.
TGSRTC has assured commuters that adequate additional services are in place to prevent inconvenience. While the festive rush is a common annual occurrence, the temporary fare increase has drawn mixed responses from passengers.
