Hyderabad: TPCC President Mahesh Kumar Goud has strongly countered Union Minister Bandi Sanjay’s claim that the Centre is solely responsible for the distribution of fine rice in Telangana. Addressing the media, Goud questioned why such rice is not being distributed across the country if the BJP is truly behind the initiative.

Goud alleged that Bandi Sanjay is grappling with political insecurity and is making baseless allegations against the Congress government. “Making irresponsible statements against the Congress will not be tolerated,” he warned.

He accused Bandi Sanjay of seeking attention within his own party and attempting to position himself for the state BJP president post. “It is surprising that he fails to recognize the developmental work done by the Congress government. It is due to Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s strong leadership that the BC reservations and SC classification bills were passed successfully,” Goud noted.

On the University of Hyderabad (HCU) controversy, Goud said the matter is under the purview of the Supreme Court, and using it for political gain is inappropriate.

Meanwhile, the Telangana government officially launched the fine rice distribution program for ration card holders on March 30. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and Deputy Chief Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy inaugurated the initiative in Huzurnagar, Suryapet district.

Chief Secretary Shanti Kumari announced that the distribution will begin in April, with nearly 10 lakh new ration cards set to be issued. She noted that the program would impose an additional financial burden on the state but reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring the poor have access to high-quality rice similar to the affluent.
