Officials said the two-storey structure, built during the Nizam era, had been weakened by days of continuous heavy rainfall in the region. The old and deteriorating condition of the building had long raised safety concerns among staff, who were reportedly reluctant to enter it. Panic briefly spread as the collapse coincided with the scheduled visit of State Minister Jupally Krishna Rao for a review meeting at the premises.

Authorities have launched an inquiry into the incident and are assessing the extent of the damage. Senior officials said detailed reports will be gathered before initiating further action. Meanwhile, there are plans to temporarily shift the Collectorate’s operations to an alternative facility. The mishap has renewed calls for the demolition and reconstruction of the ageing building.
