In a major crackdown on corruption within TGSPDCL, the government has suspended eight engineering officials for their alleged involvement in corrupt practices. The suspended officials reportedly include Assistant Divisional Engineers (ADEs), Assistant Engineers (AEs), and Sub-Engineers. The action follows an in-depth investigation conducted by the Intelligence wing based on complaints received by the Anti-Bribery Cell, which uncovered serious irregularities in the department.
According to the findings, the officials allegedly demanded substantial bribes from consumers for sanctioning new electricity connections, installing panel boards, and allocating transformers. Investigators found credible evidence that bribes were accepted through digital payment platforms such as PhonePe, indicating the use of online transactions to facilitate illegal payments. Based on the digital transaction records and supporting evidence, the government acted swiftly, suspending the officials without delay. The move is being viewed as a stern warning to others engaged in corrupt activities within the power department.
In a separate incident, two officials from the Education Department were caught red-handed by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) while allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹70,000 to process a file. The case pertains to an application submitted for a CBSE NOC certificate for the 2026–27 academic year for a private school.
Senior Assistant Gummidala Sridhar, working at the Director of School Education office in Saifabad, Hyderabad, allegedly demanded ₹70,000 to process the file, claiming he would coordinate with the Superintendent to secure the necessary clearance. Acting on a complaint, ACB officials conducted a trap operation and apprehended Sridhar while he was accepting the bribe in the presence of Superintendent Sangeena Phaniraj. A case has been registered against both officials, and they were produced before the court.
