Hyderabad: The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGRTC) is bracing for industrial unrest as the TSRTC Joint Action Committee (JAC) has announced an indefinite strike beginning at midnight on May 6. JAC leaders formally served strike notices to TSRTC Managing Director V.C. Sajjanar and the Labour Commissioner on Sunday.
According to the notice, employees will abstain from duties starting with the first shift on May 7. The JAC is demanding the implementation of promises made in the Congress party’s election manifesto, particularly with regard to employee welfare.
Expressing discontent over delayed salaries, the JAC noted that staff have not been paid for the current month and highlighted 21 key demands in their representation. One of the primary concerns is the non-payment of arrears dating back to the 2017 wage revision.
The employees alleged continued neglect of their issues, including lack of timely wages, absence of job security, and inadequate recognition of their service. The JAC stated that repeated appeals to the government, including a formal representation submitted on January 27, have gone unanswered.
“The government has not taken any concrete steps to address our problems, even three months after our initial appeal,” JAC leaders said. “We are left with no option but to proceed with the strike to safeguard our rights.”
The proposed strike is expected to disrupt transport services across Telangana unless negotiations are held and demands addressed promptly.
