The Election Commission has released the schedule for the MLC elections under the MLA quota in Telangana. The official notification will be issued on March 3, with polling and counting scheduled for March 20. The elections will be held to fill five vacant seats.
The tenure of MLCs Mahmood Ali, Satyavathi Rathod, Sheri Subhash Reddy, Yegge Mallesham, and Mirza Riyazul Hassan is set to conclude on March 29. With the current Assembly composition, the Congress party is expected to secure four out of the five seats, intensifying competition within the party for nominations. Several key leaders who were denied Assembly tickets in the recent elections are seeking MLC berths.
Among the contenders, Addanki Dayakar from the SC category is reportedly a frontrunner. From the OC category, the names of Jeevan Reddy and Sama Rammohan Reddy are under consideration. In the BC category, Neelam Madhu Mudiraj and Basavaraj Sarrayya are being considered, while another candidate from the Madiga community may also be fielded.
With the notification set to be released soon, clarity on the final candidates is expected. Meanwhile, suspense prevails over the BRS party’s strategy and its choice of candidates for the elections.
