Following the High Court’s interim orders, Telangana Minister Ponnam Prabhakar clarified that the government will determine its future course of action both legally and judicially. He emphasized that the government has presented strong arguments in favor of BC reservations, citing the caste survey conducted, the formation of a dedicated commission and sub-committees, and the passage of the legislation in the Assembly with cabinet approval before sending it to the Governor for assent. He also noted that amendments were made to the 2018 Panchayat Raj Act to strengthen reservation provisions.
Minister Prabhakar highlighted that the delay in conducting local body elections has resulted in central government funds not being released. He acknowledged that the government did not anticipate a stay from the High Court but reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to providing 42% reservations for BCs. He stressed that the Congress party remains a strong advocate of social justice and equitable representation.
During today’s High Court hearing, the minister demanded an explanation as to why the BRS and BJP were not impleaded in the case. He concluded by stating that under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi, Congress will continue to pursue elections with a focus on social justice, maintaining its stance as a champion of marginalized communities.
