The Telangana government has announced the launch of a new health scheme for state employees, teachers, and retired staff, set to begin within the next 15 days. The decision was finalized during a Healthcare Trust meeting chaired by Chief Secretary Ramakrishna Rao at the Secretariat.
Under the scheme, employees will contribute 1.5% of their basic salary to the fund, with the government matching the contribution equally. This arrangement is expected to generate ₹1,056 crore annually—₹528 crore from employees and an equal amount from the government—which will be utilized to provide corporate-level medical treatment.
The initiative will benefit approximately 12.84 lakh individuals, including 1.44 lakh employees, retired employees, and their family members. Authorities have already designated 515 hospitals for cashless treatment, and rules are being drafted to ensure that emergency treatment in neighboring states is also covered under the scheme.
Unions representing staff from gurukulas and model schools have requested inclusion in the program. Chief Secretary Ramakrishna Rao stated that such decisions will be taken after the formal establishment of the Trust. Employees are expected to access the new health card services starting next month, in March.
