New Delhi/Hyderabad: Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, 92, passed away on Thursday evening after being admitted to AIIMS, Delhi, due to severe health issues. His funeral, conducted with full state honors, took place on Saturday at Nigambodh Ghat, Delhi.
Statue and Welfare Scheme in Telangana
As a mark of respect, the Telangana government is reportedly planning to install a statue of Manmohan Singh near the Secretariat. The statue is expected to be placed close to those of Rajiv Gandhi and Indira Gandhi, situated in front of the Assembly. Additionally, the government is considering the launch of a new welfare scheme named after the late leader.
Sources indicate that an official announcement regarding these initiatives may be made during a special Assembly session scheduled for December 30. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, along with several ministers, attended the funeral in Delhi to pay their respects.

The funeral witnessed the presence of prominent leaders, including President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. Congress leaders Mallikarjun Kharge, Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and Priyanka Gandhi also attended the ceremony. In a heartfelt gesture, Rahul Gandhi assisted in carrying Manmohan Singh’s bier during the procession.
