Hyderabad: The Telangana government has issued a Government Order (GO No. 9) providing 42% reservations for Backward Classes (BCs) in the upcoming local body elections. The order, released on Friday under Article 40, aligns with state policy and emphasizes social justice considerations.

Meanwhile, election preparations across the state are almost complete. The Panchayat Raj Department has been coordinating with district-level officials and local panchayat authorities, finalizing all arrangements including those related to returning officers and check-posts. Senior officials were briefed Thursday night, and field-level staff have been instructed not to take leave during the election period.

The State Election Commission is scheduled to hold a crucial meeting on Saturday at 11 a.m. to review poll management, with Chief Secretary Ramakrishna Rao, DGP Jitender, and other senior officials expected to attend.

According to the Panchayat Raj Department, direct elections will be conducted for 12,760 panchayats, 1,12,534 wards, 565 ZPTC seats, and 5,763 MPTC seats, followed by indirect elections for chairpersons of 565 Mandal Parishads and 31 Zilla Parishads. The official election schedule for local bodies is expected to be announced by the State Election Commission tomorrow evening.
