Hyderabad: In a significant move, the Telangana government has increased liquor prices across multiple categories, delivering a setback to regular consumers. The state’s Excise Department on Sunday issued a circular announcing a price hike on various liquor variants, effective immediately.
According to the notification, the price of a quarter bottle has been increased by Rs 10, a half bottle by Rs 20, and a full bottle by Rs 40. This revision follows a recent surge in Kingfisher beer prices, further impacting the cost of alcoholic beverages in the state.
However, in contrast to the local price hike, beer enthusiasts received a piece of encouraging news. Following the Free Trade Agreement signed between India and the United Kingdom, import duties on British beer have been reduced by 75%, leading to a substantial drop in prices of select UK brands in the Indian market.

Excise officials confirmed that the price of British beer is expected to decline by Rs 20 to Rs 35 per bottle. For instance, a beer currently priced at ₹200 may now be available for Rs 165 to Rs 175, depending on the brand and distribution.
While this price reduction is limited to specific imported brands, officials noted that it could positively influence market dynamics. The Indian beer market, currently valued at ₹50,000 crore in 2024, is witnessing an annual growth rate of 8–10%, underscoring a steady rise in demand.
