The Telangana government has announced significant enhancements to the Aarogyasri health scheme, expanding its coverage and accessibility. As part of this initiative, the government has approved the inclusion of an additional 164 private hospitals in the scheme, increasing the total number of network hospitals from the existing 1,042. Of these, 409 are private hospitals, and the latest expansion aims to provide greater access to quality healthcare for beneficiaries. Under the revised framework, treatments at the newly added hospitals will be offered free of cost to Aarogyasri cardholders.
Additionally, the government has increased the treatment cost coverage under Aarogyasri to Rs 10 lakh and expanded the number of covered medical conditions to 1,835. During the 2024–25 financial year, approximately 3.53 lakh patients received treatment under the scheme.

Rs 5 Lakh Health Insurance Scheme for Senior Citizens
In a separate initiative, the Telangana government has introduced a ₹5 lakh health insurance scheme for senior citizens aged 70 and above. The scheme, set to be implemented from April 2025 under the Ayushman Bharat Vayo Vandana initiative, aims to provide free medical treatment, including surgeries, hospitalization, and medication costs, up to Rs 5 lakh.
Eligibility for the scheme is based solely on age, with Aadhaar card verification being the primary requirement. Beneficiaries already covered under Aarogyasri and PMJAY can also avail of this insurance. The state’s medical and health department has issued directives to network hospitals for its implementation.
Additionally, individuals enrolled in the Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) or other government health schemes, as well as those with private health insurance, are eligible to benefit from this initiative. Similar programs are already in place in several states, and Telangana will launch its implementation from April 1, 2025.
