In a key development for the Mamunur Airport project in Warangal district, the Telangana government has issued a Government Order (GO) to advance the airport’s construction. The move follows the initiative of Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, who played a pivotal role in expediting the project.
As per the GO, Rs 205 crore has been sanctioned for acquiring 256 acres of additional land needed for the airport’s expansion. The Roads and Buildings Department has instructed the Airport Authority of India (AAI) to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) complete with construction designs.
In a major breakthrough, GMR Group has withdrawn a 150-kilometer agreement that had previously posed a hurdle to the airport’s development. The airport currently has 696 acres of available land, and the additional 253 acres will be utilized for runway expansion, a new terminal building, Air Traffic Control (ATC) systems, and the installation of navigation equipment.
This strategic expansion marks a significant milestone in the efforts to develop Mamunur Airport into a vital regional aviation hub.
