Hyderabad: The stage is being set for sarpanch elections in Telangana, with reports indicating that local body polls are likely to be held in September. The election notification is expected in the first week of September, with the process likely to be completed by the end of the month.
A crucial cabinet meeting is scheduled for August 29, where Chief Minister Revanth Reddy is expected to take a final decision on the conduct of local body elections. The Congress government is considering allotting 42 percent of seats to Backward Classes (BCs). It may be recalled that the High Court has directed the state government to conduct the elections before September 30.
Meanwhile, the ordinance granting 42 percent reservation for BCs is still pending with President Droupadi Murmu. With the deadline approaching, political aspirants across the state are eagerly waiting for the election schedule.
