Hyderabad: Telangana has become the first state in India to conduct a caste-based census after Independence, PCC chief and MLC Mahesh Kumar Goud said on Thursday. He credited the leadership of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy for fulfilling the Kamareddy Declaration by legally enabling 42% reservations for Backward Classes (BCs).
Goud stated that the Telangana government passed a bill in both Houses to enhance BC reservations in political representation, education, and employment sectors. The bill received the Governor’s assent on April 8 and has been forwarded to the President for further approval. In light of this, BC ministers and leaders from Telangana met Governor C.P. Radhakrishnan to express their gratitude.
Rahul Gandhi’s Vision Realised Through Telangana Model
Goud said the credit for advancing the caste census nationally goes to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, describing the Centre’s recent decision to integrate caste enumeration with the general census as a significant achievement for the Congress party. He claimed the BJP-led central government is now adopting Telangana’s approach.
He further noted that the caste census in Telangana was carried out in a scientific and systematic manner under the guidance of CM Revanth Reddy and his cabinet, aligning with Rahul Gandhi’s long-standing vision.
