Hyderabad: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather advisory predicting thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds across Telangana from April 7 to 12, offering relief from the prevailing heatwave conditions.
According to the IMD, light to moderate rainfall is likely over several districts for six consecutive days. The department has also forecast thunderstorms with wind speeds of 30–40 kmph, particularly between April 7 and 9, affecting Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Mahabubabad, Warangal, Hanamkonda, and Jangaon districts. The advisory further warns that Siddipet, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Mahabubnagar, and Nagarkurnool may also witness similar conditions on April 8 and 9.
Dry weather is expected to continue on April 6 and 7, but conditions are likely to change from April 7 onwards, with daily rainfall activity projected until April 12.
The timing of the weather shift coincides with the beginning of final examinations for school students, raising concerns over commuting difficulties. Authorities have urged residents, farmers, livestock handlers, and outdoor workers to remain alert and take necessary precautions.
The IMD has instructed people in vulnerable areas to stay indoors during lightning activity and to avoid open fields and unsecured structures.
