The recent resignation of Vijay Sai Reddy has led to a vacancy in the Rajya Sabha seat from Andhra Pradesh, prompting the Election Commission to release a schedule for elections. With the current political scenario, it appears that the seat will be secured by the ruling coalition. This has sparked interest in who will contest for the seat on behalf of the coalition.
In a key development, TDP Chief Chandrababu Naidu held a meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah. During the meeting, the issue of contesting for the Rajya Sabha seat was prominently discussed.
TDP’s Approval and BJP’s Plans
Sources indicate that the TDP, the primary party in the coalition, has agreed to allocate the Rajya Sabha seat to the BJP. Additionally, Janasena has also reportedly given its consent. It is understood that the BJP plans to nominate either former Tamil Nadu BJP Chief Annamalai or former Union Minister Smriti Irani to contest the seat from Andhra Pradesh.
