New Delhi: Tahawwur Hussain Rana, one of the key accused in the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, was extradited from the United States and brought to India on Thursday evening. His flight landed at Delhi airport, following which officials from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) formally took him into custody.
The NIA is expected to produce Rana before the Patiala House Court. As a security precaution, Delhi Police cleared the court premises and restricted media access ahead of the hearing. Sources indicate that Rana is likely to be lodged at Tihar Jail.

In an official statement, the NIA confirmed the development and highlighted the years-long effort to bring Rana to justice. The agency credited the successful extradition to the coordination between the NIA, the National Security Guard (NSG), the Ministry of External Affairs, the Ministry of Home Affairs, the US Department of Justice, and other concerned authorities in the United States.

On behalf of the accused, advocate Piyush Sachdev has been appointed by the Delhi Legal Services Authority. Rana remains in NIA custody, and a photograph showing him with agency officials has since circulated widely on social media.
