Hyderabad: Syed Maqbool, the mastermind behind the 2013 Dilsukhnagar bomb blasts, has died while undergoing treatment at Gandhi Hospital. Maqbool, 52, a key figure in the Indian Mujahideen, was serving a life sentence in Cherlapally Central Jail. His health had been deteriorating following heart surgery performed 30 days ago, which was followed by kidney failure.
The Dilsukhnagar bomb blasts, which occurred in 2013, resulted in the deaths of at least 18 people and injured 126 others. Maqbool was identified as the primary suspect in the case and had been sentenced to life imprisonment by the Delhi High Court.
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) had linked Maqbool to several bomb attacks across the country, including the 2006 and 2007 Mumbai serial blasts, as well as attacks in Jaipur, Delhi, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, and Dilsukhnagar. He was originally from Nanded, Maharashtra, and was known to be close to Indian Mujahideen founder Azam Ghori.
Six months ago, a new case was registered against Maqbool in Hyderabad, leading to his transfer from Delhi under a transit warrant.
