New Delhi: The Supreme Court has emphasized the need for a long-term strategy to tackle Delhi’s severe air pollution, which escalates every winter with the Air Quality Index (AQI) frequently reaching between 300 and 400.
The court observed that temporary measures alone are insufficient to address the crisis and rejected imposing bans on multiple construction activities as an immediate solution. It stated that it is not in a position to issue sensational directives to control pollution in the short term.
However, the court has directed the central government to submit a comprehensive plan by November 19, highlighting that short-term interventions provide minimal benefit. Authorities have been urged to focus on sustainable, long-term measures to mitigate the capital’s persistent air pollution problem.
