The Supreme Court has commenced examination of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s petition challenging the Delhi High Court’s ruling, which upheld the CBI’s arrest in the ongoing liquor scam investigation. Kejriwal’s petition requests bail, and the Supreme Court has granted the CBI a one-week deadline to respond. The court has adjourned the hearing, with the next session scheduled for September 5.

Previously, the Supreme Court had granted Kejriwal conditional bail in the Enforcement Directorate (ED) case associated with the liquor scam. Kejriwal was arrested by the ED on March 21. Following his arrest, he sought permission from the Supreme Court to campaign in the Lok Sabha elections. On May 10, the Supreme Court granted him interim bail with specific conditions, instructing him to return to jail on June 2.

Upon the expiry of the interim bail, Kejriwal requested an extension due to health issues, but the Supreme Court rejected his plea and dismissed the petition for an extension. As a result, Kejriwal surrendered to jail on June 2.

In a related development, the Supreme Court recently granted conditional bail to former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia after nearly 17 months in connection with the case.
