New Delhi: Powerful earthquakes struck India’s Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Australia’s Tasmania late Monday night, causing panic but resulting in no reported casualties or significant damage.
The National Center for Seismology (NCS) and the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) reported that a 6.3-magnitude earthquake occurred in the Bay of Bengal near the Andaman and Nicobar Islands at 12:41 a.m. with an epicenter 10 km deep. Authorities confirmed no major damage or tsunami alert. In a separate incident, a 6.7-magnitude earthquake struck Tasmania at 3:40 a.m. local time, with officials confirming no loss of life or property.
