Sharmistha Mukherjee, daughter of the late former President Pranab Mukherjee, has accused the Congress party of failing to pay proper tribute to her father following his death. In a tweet posted on X, she criticized the party for not arranging a Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting to honor her father after his passing. She shared, “When our father passed away, Congress did not arrange a CWC meeting. A senior leader mentioned that tributes were not paid to Presidents in CWC meetings. However, upon reading my father’s diary, I discovered this was not true. The diary revealed that after the death of former President K.R. Narayanan, a CWC meeting was held to pay tribute to him. This was organized under my father’s leadership.”

Sharmistha also alleged that Congress misled her at the time.
On a different note, Sharmistha expressed her support for the Congress’s request to the central government to establish a memorial for former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. “Creating a memorial for Manmohan Singh is an excellent idea, and he certainly deserves it. When my father was President, he had even advocated for the Bharat Ratna for Manmohan Singh. Unfortunately, it did not happen due to various reasons,” she added.
