Hyderabad: Senior IAS officer Smita Sabharwal has reportedly opted for a six-month childcare leave and it is learnt that she is dissatisfied with the current state governmentShe is expected to be on leave from September 1 to January 31.
Smita Sabharwal has been a key figure in the Telangana administration, serving on the Chief Minister’s advisory committee and playing a pivotal role in the Mission Bhagiratha project. However, following the change in government, her prominence in official assignments has reportedly declined. She currently holds the position of Member Secretary of the State Finance Council, with her responsibilities temporarily assigned to Katyayani Devi.
Sources indicate that repeated transfers and perceived sidelining have contributed to her decision. She was initially posted as Member Secretary of the State Finance Council, later transferred to Secretary of Youth Development, Tourism, and Culture, and then reinstated to her previous post. Her tenure has also seen controversies, including critical tweets regarding HCU land issues and allegations linked to the Mission Bhagiratha project. It remains uncertain whether she will return to service after the six-month leave or pursue an alternative course.
