Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday received a grand ceremonial welcome in New Delhi. The reception at Rashtrapati Bhavan included a traditional guard of honour, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Droupadi Murmu personally greeting the Russian leader. Senior officials from both countries were introduced during the ceremony, highlighting the high-level nature of the visit.
As part of his Delhi itinerary, President Putin visited Raj Ghat to pay tribute to Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation. He laid a floral wreath at the memorial and observed a moment of silence in respect. The ceremony was attended by India’s Minister of State for External Affairs, Keerti Vardhan Singh, and President Putin also signed the visitors’ book, marking his respect for India’s heritage and historical legacy.
The visit underscores the deepening bilateral relations between India and Russia. Analysts note that the ceremonial gestures and public engagements reflect the trust and longstanding ties between the two nations. Putin’s participation in these events emphasizes India’s importance as a strategic partner for Russia in the region.
During the visit, Prime Minister Modi and President Putin are scheduled to hold official talks at Hyderabad House. The discussions are expected to cover defence and energy cooperation, regional security, and long-term economic partnership. Experts believe these talks could further strengthen strategic and economic ties, reinforcing collaboration between the two nations across multiple sectors.
