A recent food poisoning incident at the Maganoor Government School in Narayanpet district has resulted in multiple students being hospitalized. Approximately 25 students fell ill after consuming the midday meal, with many suddenly experiencing vomiting and dizziness. The school staff and teachers swiftly transferred the affected students to a local hospital for medical attention.

In response to the incident, the Women’s Commission conducted an inspection of the school, as this marks the third food poisoning case within a week. The recurring issue has raised concerns, with accusations of food contamination being cited as the possible cause. The Commission has issued a warning to the school management to prevent future incidents of this nature.

Revelation Behind the Incidents:

An RTV ground report has revealed startling details regarding the food poisoning cases. Interviews with school staff and students uncovered that the cook attributed the incidents to the actions of “Ammawaru,” a caretaker at the school. The cook claimed that the caretaker’s inability to perform daily prayers contributed to the problem, and further mentioned that they had reported the presence of insects in the food to the authorities.

Students’ Concerns:

Students who were interviewed shared mixed opinions on the food provided. While some noted that the food served on the day of the incident was good, others complained about the quality of meals served on previous days. Several students expressed a lack of trust in the school’s food, citing concerns about water contamination. They reported that the water tank did not have a proper lid, and it was only after the incident that the tank was closed. Additionally, students noted that when the water had an unpleasant odor, bleach was used to mask the smell. They voiced concerns over the unsanitary conditions of the water tank, which they claimed was never properly cleaned.

In light of these ongoing issues, students have started bringing meals from home and have expressed uncertainty regarding the quality of meals in the future. Many fear that such incidents may recur without proper intervention and improvements from the school authorities.
