Hyderabad: The Revanth-led state government is preparing to expand the Hydra task force, initially launched as a pilot project to curb illegal constructions in Hyderabad, to the broader Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) region.

As part of the expansion, the government has decided to divide the HMDA area into three zones, each to be overseen by senior officers at the SP level. The Hyderabad Police Commissionerate will be classified as the central zone, Cyberabad as the north zone, and Rachakonda as the south zone. Zonal officers and full-time staff will be appointed to ensure the efficient functioning of this initiative.

All three zones will report to the Chief Commissioner, who will oversee their operations. The Law Department is currently working to provide legal backing to Hydra, which was first established through a special government order (GO) two months ago. A formal announcement regarding the extension of Hydra and the details of its operations is expected in the near future.
