Hyderabad: The Revanth Reddy-led government is formulating a new plan to tackle the surge of unauthorized constructions in the city. Based on a recent directive, any structures built illegally after October 1, 2024, are set to be demolished. Reports suggest that this rule will primarily target encroachments on government properties, lakes, and ponds. The Municipal and Urban Development Department has already submitted proposals, with formal orders expected soon.

310 Buildings Already Demolished by Hydra

The Hydra task force has made significant strides in reclaiming government lands, lakes, and ponds by demolishing unauthorized structures. So far, it has removed 310 illegal constructions and reclaimed 114 acres of public land. For years, encroachments have persisted, with some individuals securing permits through dubious means and others building without any permits, later selling these properties to third parties.

Ensuring Compliance with New October 1 Cutoff

This new directive, using October 1 as a baseline, aims to immediately address any future unauthorized constructions by demolishing them upon detection. For now, structures built before October 1 will not be targeted, but new violators will face immediate action. Based on proposals from the Urban Development Department, the government is expected to issue formal orders soon.
