Director Nitesh Tiwari’s upcoming mythological epic Ramayana is poised to become the most expensive Indian film ever made, with a reported production budget of Rs 1,600 crore. The film, which stars Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram and Sai Pallavi as Sita, will be released in two parts.
According to industry reports, Ranbir Kapoor is being paid Rs 150 crore—Rs 75 crore for each part—making it one of the highest remunerations for an Indian actor. Sai Pallavi is reportedly receiving Rs 12 crore for her role. Kannada actor Yash will portray Ravana and is also serving as co-producer.
The first part is expected to release during Diwali 2026, with the second installment slated for Diwali 2027. The project, backed by a massive budget of Rs 900 crore for the first part and ₹700 crore for the second, is generating significant anticipation within the film industry.
Director Nitesh Tiwari, acclaimed for blockbusters such as Dangal, Chhichhore, and Chillar Party, brings considerable credibility to the project. Dangal alone grossed over Rs 2,000 crore globally and remains one of the highest-grossing Indian films of all time.
The music for Ramayana is being composed by A.R. Rahman, further elevating expectations. With the release of the first glimpse already creating a buzz, the film is widely seen as one of the most ambitious cinematic undertakings in Indian film history.
