A violent attack in Medchal district’s Pocharam IT corridor on Saturday left multiple people injured and resulted in the tragic death of a six-year-old girl. The assailant, identified as Hapna Hembram (30) from West Bengal, indiscriminately attacked pedestrians with a knife and vandalized parked vehicles before being subdued by locals.
Rampage Leaves Several Injured
The suspect, who had joined construction work in Pocharam just a day before, launched an unprovoked attack on passersby, injuring several individuals, including women and children. He later picked up stones and wooden sticks near the Warangal-Hyderabad National Highway and targeted vehicles, damaging two cars and an auto-rickshaw.

Young Girl Succumbs to Injuries
During the assault, the attacker struck a six-year-old girl, Riya Kumari, on the head with a beer bottle while she was playing near a labor camp. She was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to her injuries. Her parents, Jageshwar and his wife, who had migrated from Bihar for construction work, were left devastated.
Police Take Suspect into Custody
Local residents managed to overpower the assailant, restrained him, and alerted the police. Officers from the Pocharam IT Corridor Police Station took him into custody for further investigation.
The victim’s parents have demanded strict punishment for the accused, while locals have raised concerns over public safety, questioning law enforcement’s role in preventing such incidents. The tragic death of the child has deeply disturbed the community.
