Amaravati: Protests have intensified across Andhra Pradesh following alleged derogatory remarks made against women from Amaravati. Farmers and women’s groups staged demonstrations on Saturday, demanding strict action against journalist Krishna Raju and YSRCP leader Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy.

In Thullur, protesters displayed placards and raised slogans condemning the remarks, while in Mandadam village, demonstrators blocked roads, disrupting traffic for several hours. Police intervened to clear the sit-in. Protesters warned that the agitation would continue until both individuals issued public apologies.

The controversy stems from comments made by journalist Krishna Raju during a panel discussion on Sakshi TV, where Amaravati was referred to in an offensive manner. The anchor, Kommineni Srinivasa Rao, was accused of failing to condemn the remarks, sparking widespread outrage. Complaints were lodged at multiple police stations, including Thullur.

Police have since arrested Kommineni Srinivasa Rao based on complaints from women’s groups. He was remanded for 14 days before being granted conditional bail by the Supreme Court. Krishna Raju has also been taken into custody. With calls growing louder, farmers have renewed demands for the arrest of Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy, vowing to continue their protests until action is taken.
