A political controversy has erupted in the Telugu states following comments made by political analyst Prof. K. Nageshwar Rao regarding a meeting between Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. His remarks have led to a police case in Andhra Pradesh and widespread social media speculation about his possible arrest, which officials have firmly denied.
The controversy began after Prof. Nageshwar Rao participated in a televised debate, where he referred to an earlier meeting in New Delhi involving Pawan Kalyan, Janasena leader Nadendla Manohar, and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. He made several claims regarding alleged political discussions during the meeting, including pressure-related narratives concerning the arrest of YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. The remarks quickly drew strong political reactions.
In his statements, Prof. Nageshwar Rao also attributed comments to Amit Shah regarding the political relationship between Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. He later reportedly withdrew or clarified his remarks. Janasena leaders strongly objected to his comments, alleging that he fabricated a non-existent conversation involving senior political leaders to mislead the public and damage the image of the ruling alliance.
Following the controversy, Janasena leaders filed a formal complaint at the Indrapalem Police Station in Kakinada district against Prof. Nageshwar Rao and the television channel that aired the programme. Based on the complaint, police registered a case and initiated an investigation into the matter. The issue gained further political traction after reports emerged that party leadership had taken a serious view of the allegations.
Meanwhile, social media platforms were flooded with claims that Andhra Pradesh police personnel had travelled to Hyderabad in multiple vehicles to arrest Prof. Nageshwar Rao. The rumours intensified after his mobile phone reportedly became unreachable for a period of time. However, police in Hyderabad’s Tolichowki area provided precautionary security near his residence.
Authorities have categorically denied the arrest rumours, stating that no such operation has been undertaken by Andhra Pradesh police in Hyderabad. Officials clarified that the circulating claims are entirely false and appear to be part of deliberate misinformation aimed at creating political tension between the two Telugu states. The Andhra Pradesh government’s fact-checking unit also confirmed that while legal procedures may follow, there is no immediate plan for arrest, urging the public not to believe unverified reports.
