Hyderabad: A portion of a minaret of the historic Charminar collapsed on Thursday as heavy rains accompanied by strong winds lashed Hyderabad. The plaster fell onto the Bhagyalakshmi temple premises, triggering panic among visitors.
Authorities arrived at the scene to assess the damage. Reports indicate that the collapsed portion was from a section that had undergone repairs in the past.

The downpour, which began in the afternoon, caused severe waterlogging and uprooted trees in several parts of the city, disrupting traffic and daily activities.
Charminar, constructed in 1591 by Muhammad Quli Qutb Shah, is a significant historical landmark. It was included in UNESCO’s tentative list of World Heritage Sites in 2010. Restoration efforts are expected to be taken up urgently following the incident.
