Amid rising tensions in the Middle East, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a detailed phone conversation with Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman to discuss the ongoing conflict and its global repercussions. The leaders deliberated on the escalating warlike situation and its impact on international trade and security.
Prime Minister Modi expressed concern over the threats faced by vessels navigating key maritime routes due to regional unrest. Both leaders agreed on the need to ensure that cargo ships can travel freely and safely, emphasizing that protecting shipping lanes is critical to maintaining uninterrupted global energy supplies. Modi strongly condemned attacks on regional energy infrastructure, warning that such actions could disrupt the global economy.
The confrontation between Iran and Israel has further complicated the situation, particularly as Iran’s restrictions on the Strait of Hormuz—a passage transporting 20 percent of global energy—have hindered maritime traffic. Modi’s discussions highlighted the importance of safeguarding international sea routes to prevent broader economic and energy crises.
Since the conflict began, Prime Minister Modi has engaged in continuous dialogue with world leaders, including U.S. President Donald Trump and representatives from the UAE, Qatar, Israel, Iran, and France. He reiterated India’s commitment to facilitating peace in the region and expressed gratitude to Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for supporting the welfare of the Indian community in Saudi Arabia.
