Ahmedabad/Delhi: With additional US tariffs on Indian imports set to take effect at midnight on August 27, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized that India is prepared to handle any external pressure. Speaking at a roadshow in Ahmedabad, Modi highlighted that while the tariffs will put some strain on the government and Indian businesses, the interests of farmers, small entrepreneurs, and citizens will remain paramount.

Modi defended India’s imports of crude oil from Russia, noting that these purchases have saved billions in import costs and helped maintain stable domestic fuel prices. He criticized the US for imposing tariffs while presenting its own oil favorably, stressing that India acts in accordance with national economic interests.

Amid the impending tariffs, Modi urged citizens and businesses to prioritize domestic products, especially during the festive season, including Navratri, Vijayadashami, Dhanteras, and Diwali. He called for local goods to be prominently displayed in every shop, underscoring that the nation’s economic progress depends on collective support for homegrown products.
