Tamil Nadu politics has entered a phase of heightened uncertainty following the Assembly election results, as no party or alliance has secured the required majority of 118 seats to form the government. The fractured mandate has led to intense political discussions and speculation over possible post-poll alignments in the state.
Amid this backdrop, AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS) made a significant statement on Saturday that has drawn widespread attention in political circles. His remarks are being viewed as indirectly easing the political space for actor Vijay-led Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), which has emerged as a major force in the elections.
In a notable development, Palaniswami issued a letter extending advance wishes to the incoming government, while explicitly stating that the AIADMK is not in the race for power. He clarified that the party has no intention of staking a claim to form the government, signalling a shift towards functioning as a responsible opposition.
EPS further dismissed ongoing speculation regarding his potential return to the Chief Minister’s post, asserting that he is not part of any such political race. His statement also put to rest reports suggesting that AIADMK was exploring backchannel efforts to secure support for government formation.
Meanwhile, political discussions around possible post-poll arrangements involving AIADMK, DMK, and external support dynamics have been widely reported, though key allies of the DMK, including CPI, CPM, and VCK, have reportedly opposed any such alignment. With AIADMK stepping back from government formation efforts, political analysts believe the path may now be clearer for TVK, which is emerging as a decisive player in the post-election scenario.
