Pakistan has been shaken by consecutive earthquakes over the past few days, causing widespread fear among residents. On Monday, October 20, 2025, a 4.7-magnitude earthquake struck the country, according to the National Center for Seismology (NCS). The tremor caused panic across several regions and minor structural damage to houses, though no casualties have been reported. Authorities promptly began monitoring the affected areas to assess the impact.
The NCS stated that the earthquake’s epicenter was located approximately 10 kilometers below the surface, which intensified the tremors experienced on the ground. The shallow depth of the quake led to noticeable shaking in multiple areas, prompting residents to rush outdoors. Earlier, earthquakes measuring 4.0 on the Richter scale occurred in Pakistan on Saturday and Sunday, underscoring the region’s high seismic activity.

The NCS shared the earthquake’s coordinates on its official Twitter (X) account as 30.51° N latitude and 70.41° E longitude. Experts noted that shallow earthquakes pose greater risks because seismic waves travel shorter distances to the surface, resulting in stronger tremors and potential damage.
Pakistan’s location at the convergence of the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates makes it particularly susceptible to earthquakes. Regions including Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Gilgit-Baltistan lie along the southern edge of the Eurasian belt, while Sindh and Punjab are situated on the northwestern edge of the Indian belt. This tectonic activity contributes to frequent seismic events across the country, experts say.
