Islamabad/Washington: Pakistan Army Chief General Asim Munir is scheduled to visit the United States for the second time in two months, in what observers see as a sign of strengthening military and diplomatic engagement between the two countries. The visit is reportedly linked to the retirement ceremony of U.S. CENTCOM chief General Michael Kurilla.
General Munir previously visited the U.S. in June 2025, where he participated in American Armed Forces Day celebrations and was hosted by President Donald Trump at a White House banquet. That meeting drew attention amid heightened India-Pakistan tensions and was viewed as a notable moment in regional diplomacy.

During the upcoming trip, Munir is expected to hold talks with senior U.S. defense officials on matters including counterterrorism, defense cooperation, and regional security. Analysts suggest the visit reflects Washington’s intent to recalibrate ties with Islamabad, partly in response to growing Chinese influence in the region.
Repeated invitations to Munir from Washington are being interpreted as a strategic move by the U.S. to engage more closely with Pakistan’s military leadership. While it is unclear whether another meeting with Trump is on the agenda, regional experts note that such engagements could pose new diplomatic challenges for India as the U.S. navigates its partnerships in South Asia.
