A single number will now be available for all emergency services across Telangana. Until now, separate numbers were used for police (100), ambulance, and fire services; these have now been discontinued, with “Dial 112” coming into effect for all such services going forward. DGP CV Anand inaugurated the new emergency call center in Hyderabad on Wednesday, marking the formal rollout of the unified system.

Speaking at the launch, the DGP said the new service was introduced to ensure faster and more efficient response during emergencies. He noted that citizens would no longer need to remember multiple helpline numbers, as all categories of emergency assistance would now be accessible through the single number, 112. He explained that calls made to 112 would be analyzed through an AI-based system, which would automatically route each call to the appropriate department while simultaneously identifying the caller’s location — allowing operators to dispatch the correct emergency unit to the incident site within minutes. The system, he said, has been designed to handle more than 900 calls simultaneously.

In a notable first for the country, the DGP announced that drones have been introduced as “first responders” under the system, to assess ground-level conditions during emergencies before response teams arrive at the scene. He said that, having been personally associated with the project since its inception, he found its launch today to be a moment of significant professional satisfaction.

Recalling his earlier tenure as Hyderabad Commissioner of Police, the DGP said budget allocations had been made at the time to relocate the erstwhile “Dial 100 Operations Center” — which then handled only Dial 100 and Dial 108 calls — from Kompally to the Telangana Integrated Command and Control Center (TGICCC), and to begin integrating other emergency services into a single platform. That groundwork, he said, laid the foundation for the system’s transformation into its current, fully unified form.

Describing Dial 112 as a critical tool for crime prevention, the DGP directed unit-level officials to closely monitor calls received through the system and act on them promptly. He further instructed officers to remain steadfast in supporting citizens during emergencies, underscoring the system’s broader goal of strengthening public safety response across the state.
