The Telangana High Court conducted a hearing on the demolition actions by HYDRA, with K.A. Paul urging for a stay on Government Order (GO) No. 99. Paul argued for an immediate halt to the demolitions, asserting that the actions should not proceed until HYDRA’s legal status is clarified. However, the court stated that the demolitions could not be stopped at this moment.
Hearing Adjourned to 14th of This Month
Paul requested that notices be issued 30 days prior to any demolition of illegal constructions. After hearing his arguments, the High Court issued notices to the respondents and the state government, directing them to file a counter. The next hearing has been scheduled for the 14th of this month.
Background on HYDRA and Demolitions
The Congress government in Telangana established HYDRA through GO No. 99 on July 19. Since then, HYDRA officials have targeted illegal constructions within Full Tank Levels (FTL) and buffer zones, demolishing numerous structures regardless of whether they belonged to the rich or the poor.
Initially, the public responded positively to HYDRA’s actions. However, widespread protests began, particularly concerning the demolition of illegal constructions belonging to the poor. Many locals, upset about demolitions without prior notice, have opposed HYDRA’s operations, with some taking legal recourse to halt the process.
