New Delhi: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested another key accused in connection with the recent Delhi blast, further widening the scope of its terror probe. The agency detained Aamir Rashid Ali alias Poo, who allegedly worked closely with suicide bomber Umar Nabi. Officials said Aamir, a resident of Sambura, Pampore in Jammu and Kashmir, purchased the vehicle used in the attack and conspired with the bomber to convert it into an improvised explosive device (IED). The car was registered in his name, and forensic examination confirmed that the deceased driver was Umar Un Nabi.

On Monday, the NIA announced the arrest of another accused, Jasir Bilal alias Danish, who is believed to have played a critical role in manufacturing the car bomb. Investigators say Danish was involved not only in assembling the explosive device but also had previous technical involvement in the development of drone-based weapon systems and rocket components.

Attack Modelled on Hamas-Style Operation

NIA interrogation has revealed that the accused had initially planned a Hamas-style assault, involving drones and rockets, similar to the 2023 attack on Israel. Danish allegedly attempted to design high-capacity drones equipped with cameras and heavy battery support, capable of carrying significant explosive payloads. According to officials, the intention was to deploy armed drones over crowded public locations to cause mass casualties, a tactic previously observed among terror groups in Syria and Gaza.

Academic Background, Wider Network Suspected

Danish is reported to be an Assistant Professor in the General Medicine Department at Al-Falah University in Faridabad, originally from Pulwama district. The NIA has seized another vehicle owned by Umar Nabi, and the agency is now examining possible links between the bomber and several individuals, including Dr. Rehan, Dr. Mohammad, Dr. Mustakeem, and fertilizer trader Dinesh Singla.

A multi-agency investigation is underway, with the NIA working alongside Delhi Police and security forces from Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. The agency has questioned 73 witnesses, including several injured survivors. Officials believe a larger terror network may have orchestrated the conspiracy, and efforts are ongoing to identify the masterminds and funding channels behind the attack.
