The catastrophic disaster in Nepal has left the world in shock, with thousands of people, including tourists, reported missing and hundreds dead. So far, close to 700 bodies have been recovered, while thousands more remain trapped under debris, still awaiting rescue. Rescue teams are working relentlessly to save people trapped beneath collapsed homes, with large-scale relief operations continuing across the affected areas.
Amid the grim search, rescue personnel clearing debris came across a heart-wrenching sight — a six-year-old girl who had been trapped under the rubble for three days, fighting for her life. After an intense effort, the rescue team managed to pull her out and rush her to hospital. Visuals of the rescue have since gone viral on social media.
The rescue took place in the Timure area of Rasuwa district, where Nepal’s armed police forces were carrying out a large-scale rescue operation when they heard a child crying from beneath the debris. Personnel responded immediately, carefully clearing away the mud and rubble, and located the child trapped underneath. The girl, found completely covered in mud, was carefully extracted, cleaned up, and — given her critical condition — rushed to a hospital in Kathmandu for advanced treatment. She is now said to be recovering in hospital.
Meanwhile, in the aftermath of the disaster, visuals of rescue workers and local residents alike digging through mounds of mud and debris, still holding on to hope that their missing loved ones may be found alive, have moved people to tears.
Officials have confirmed that around 3,000 people remain unaccounted for across Nepal and Tibet combined following the sudden floods. Of those missing, 540 are foreign nationals, with sources indicating that a large number of them are Indians who had travelled for the Manasarovar Yatra. Rain, fog and continuing floods along the Nepal-Tibet border region are hampering rescue operations. Separately, India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said information regarding 128 Indian nationals remains unavailable. Officials said that of those who had gone on the yatra over the past two days, 598 Indians have safely reached secure locations in Nepal from China, while another 900 remain on the Chinese side of the border.
