Hyderabad: A four-page letter written by the mother of a minor girl in the POCSO case registered against Bandi Bhagirath has triggered widespread discussion and controversy. In the letter, she stated that they belong to a middle-class family with no political backing and expressed anguish over the alleged public circulation of her daughter’s identity while the investigation is still underway. She urged social media platforms and YouTube channels to refrain from sharing her daughter’s photographs and videos, citing severe mental distress.

The mother alleged that her daughter was introduced to Bhagirath in 2025, after which he allegedly misled and manipulated her with false promises. She claimed that he took the girl to multiple locations and apartments and repeatedly pressured her for physical relations despite her resistance. She further alleged that on the night of December 31, 2025, and January 1, 2026, at Moinabad, he forcibly made her consume alcohol and behaved inappropriately against her will.

According to the letter, the victim developed severe psychological trauma after the accused went absconding in January. The family began exploring legal remedies in March and April, she said. However, she alleged that a counter-complaint was filed against them on April 21, accusing them of blackmail and extortion, which further intensified their distress. She also stated that a mediator intervened on April 22, following which they met Bhagirath’s father on April 23 in search of resolution.

The mother also raised concerns over the handling of the case by police authorities, alleging initial delays at the Pet Bashirabad police station and claiming that the case was first registered under bailable sections before non-bailable provisions were added following public pressure and the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT). She alleged that the accused continues to remain free despite the seriousness of the charges.

She demanded preservation of all digital evidence, including alleged chats and messages sent by Bhagirath, and called for forensic examination before any deletion of data. She also sought safeguarding of CCTV footage, general diary entries, and station records from the police station. The letter further alleged attempts to divert attention by focusing on the victim’s age instead of core evidence, and urged for an impartial and independent investigation without any external influence.
