Prime Minister Narendra Modi outlined six strategic principles aimed at advancing global development and accelerating Africa’s growth during the G20 Summit held in Johannesburg, South Africa. The proposed initiatives include a Global Traditional Knowledge Repository, Africa Skills Multiplier Initiative, Global Healthcare Response Team, a dedicated program to counter drugs and terrorism, an Open Satellite Data Partnership, and a Critical Minerals Circularity Initiative. Modi stated that these efforts would foster sustainable progress worldwide and reflect India’s civilizational values and developmental vision.
Highlighting India’s heritage, Modi said the Global Traditional Knowledge Repository would document proven traditional practices to guide future generations toward sustainable living and well-being. Reaffirming India’s commitment to Africa, he announced that the Africa Skills Multiplier Initiative aims to train one million certified instructors within the next decade through a “train-the-trainer” model, enabling skill development for millions of youth and strengthening local economic capacity.
Modi further emphasized coordinated global action during health emergencies and natural disasters, calling for the formation of G20-trained rapid medical response teams. He also urged international cooperation to curb illegal drug trafficking, prevent the spread of substances like fentanyl, and dismantle drug-terror financing networks. Additionally, he proposed promoting recycling, urban mining, second-life battery models, and innovation through the Critical Minerals Circularity Initiative to ensure long-term sustainability of essential resources.
