Telangana MLC Kavitha has launched a strong critique of the BJP-led central government, accusing it of not allocating funds to the newly formed state and failing to support industrial development. She charged the central government with showing indifference to Telangana’s progress and economic interests, stating that no industry has received support from the BJP government. Kavitha emphasized, “Bayyaram Steel Plant is a rightful demand for Telangana,” reiterating the long-standing struggle for this project since the Telangana movement under K Chandrashekar Rao’s leadership.
Historical Context of Bayyaram Steel Plant
Kavitha pointed out that K Chandrashekar Rao had written a letter to then-Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in 2013, before Telangana’s formation, advocating the establishment of a steel plant in Bayyaram. She highlighted that the region contains over 300 million tons of iron ore reserves spread across more than 1.41 lakh acres. KCR’s idea was to create local employment opportunities through this project, a vision that was also supported by provisions in the Telangana State Reorganization Act.

Central Government Accountability Demanded
Kavitha emphasized that the central government must implement the laws passed by Parliament, regardless of which political party is in power. She accused the BJP of failing to fulfill its promises even after over a decade in power. She also noted the multiple instances when KCR pressured the central government to prioritize Telangana’s development needs.
She strongly condemned the BJP government for using the quality of iron ore as an excuse to prevent the establishment of a steel plant. Kavitha also mentioned KCR’s negotiations with the Chhattisgarh government to bring an additional 100 million tons of iron ore, a crucial step to make the Bayyaram project viable.
