After seven months of suspense, the Congress High Command has finally decided on the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) Chief. Mahesh Kumar Goud has been appointed as the new TPCC Chief, with the official orders issued. Although Madhu Yashki Goud, who holds significant influence with Rahul Gandhi, remained in the race until the last minute, the High Command favored Mahesh Kumar Goud. The reasons behind his selection for this powerful position, particularly during a crucial time for the Congress party, have sparked widespread discussion. His loyalty to the party and long-standing association with Congress since his student politics days are seen as key factors in his favor.
Mahesh Kumar Goud’s political journey began during his college years when he was appointed as the NSUI state secretary. In 1986, he was elected as the NSUI Nizamabad district president. Later, he served as the National Youth Congress Secretary. Impressed by his work, the Congress fielded him as the MLA candidate from Dichpally in the 1994 Assembly elections, where he garnered attention as one of the youngest candidates.
In 2013-14, Mahesh Kumar Goud served as the Chairman of the Warehousing Corporation in the united Andhra Pradesh. In 2014, the Congress fielded him as the MLA candidate from Nizamabad Urban, where he lost to BRS candidate Ganesh. However, he remained committed to the party, holding positions such as TPCC Secretary, Spokesperson, and General Secretary. In 2018, he hoped to contest again from Nizamabad Urban but stepped aside when the party decided to field a minority candidate. Despite this, he worked towards the party’s victory in that election.
Mahesh Kumar Goud also served as the Convener of the Congress Manifesto Committee during that period. When Revanth Reddy was appointed TPCC Chief, Mahesh Kumar Goud became the Working President and later a member of the TPCC Election Committee. Ahead of the 2023 elections, he prepared to contest again from Nizamabad Urban, but the party chose senior leader Shabbir Ali instead, forcing Goud to step aside once more.
Despite these setbacks, Mahesh Kumar Goud was given an MLC post when Congress came into power. His close relationship with key leaders, including Revanth Reddy, and his reputation as a non-controversial figure loyal to the Congress party have worked in his favor, ultimately leading to his appointment as the TPCC Chief, a crucial role in Telangana politics.
