A low-pressure area formed over the Southwest Bay of Bengal near Sri Lanka on Saturday and is moving westward towards Tamil Nadu, according to the India Meteorological Department. Due to its influence, rainfall is likely to spread from the Bay of Bengal across eastern Tamil Nadu and further into South Coastal Andhra Pradesh and the Rayalaseema region.
Forecasts indicate that several areas in South Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema may receive light to moderate rainfall today. On Monday, very heavy rainfall is expected in Nellore and Tirupati districts, while Prakasam, Chittoor, and Annamayya districts are likely to witness isolated heavy showers. The IMD adds that heavy rains may continue in Nellore, Tirupati, and Chittoor districts on November 18.
As the weather system is expected to impact mainly the southern parts of the state, dry conditions may persist across North Coastal Andhra. Meanwhile, night temperatures in Coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema dropped by three to six degrees Celsius below normal on Saturday due to strengthening northerly winds.
