Srikakulam: The tragic stampede at the Kasibugga Venkateswara Swamy Temple in Srikakulam district has left the state in deep sorrow. Andhra Pradesh Minister Nara Lokesh on Saturday announced an ex-gratia of Rs 15 lakh each to the families of the deceased and Rs 3 lakh each to those injured. The minister visited the accident site in Kasibugga and later met the injured devotees undergoing treatment at the Palasa Government Hospital.
Addressing the media, Lokesh said the temple had been constructed by a 94-year-old devotee using his personal funds, and no one had anticipated such a massive turnout. Despite barricades being installed, the overwhelming rush of devotees led to the collapse and subsequent stampede. He said all the injured were receiving proper medical treatment and assured that measures would be taken to prevent similar incidents in the future. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu is closely monitoring the situation, while officials confirmed that 16 injured devotees are currently under treatment and out of danger.
